People are more prone to ailments these days due to a way of living that is full of stress and lacking physical activity. This is further worsened by unwise food choices. The most widely known of these supplements is garlic. This effectively lowers hypertension and lowers cholesterol levels. Cholesterol, which is naturally produced by the body to build membranes can sometimes build up and clog up the arteries causing an increase in blood pressure. Garlic contains anticoagulant components causing thinning or lessening the clumping of blood. Though this is beneficial, it would not be a good condition for those having surgery.

Integrity of the arteries and veins can be protected by rosemary. These blood vessels are strengthened by the compounds present in this herb. Blood pressure is lowered as well. It is also good as prevention of cataracts making it useful to old people who have a familial history of cataracts.

Cinnamon is one of the best known spices that has a wide range of antidote. When paired with honey, it can be used as treatment for arthritis, hair loss, urinary problems, and toothache. These are just some as there is a very wide list of ailments that can be treated by this combination.

Jamaican bush tea is made from Cerasee, an herb mostly found in Jamaica. It is widely known as a blood purifier. It may not be pleasing to some people specially the young ones because of its bitterness but its antioxidative benefits are something to look up to.

Cayanne pepper, which is known for its very hot taste has many benefits. Those aiming for weight loss would be pleased to know that it is rich in capsaicin. Capsaicin is responsible for the hot taste. It boosts metabolic rate to higher levels. Calories burned even during at rest spike up with this compound. It is also present in other hot spice varieties like ginger and chili.

Gingko biloba is well known as a memory supplement. This can be taken specially by students and aging people. The action of this herb is to promote circulation of blood to the whole body and the brain is included, therefore, enhancing mental function.

Sage has the active ingredient flavonoid and phenolic compounds. It has antiinflammatory properties as well. Arthritis, joint pains, and other inflammatory processes in the body are minimized by having this as an addition to daily intake.
