The secret to weight loss is so simple that it may not be fair to call it a secret at all. If you use more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. Simple as that. So the quest becomes how to increase your calorie usage as efficiently as possible while at the same time making sure you're eating sufficient amounts of food to stay healthy.
Simply stop eating won't do the trick. Sure, you will lose weight after your body realizes what's going on, which could be a fair amount of time, and starts using your fat stores to survive. But simply limiting what you eat will cause your body to hold on to what is does have, start picking and choosing which bodily functions it can sacrifice to save energy, and you'll become sick on top of losing muscle mass. That's why eating the right foods and the right amounts is critical. I always want to clarify this point but that's an article for another day.
With that being said, let's move on and talk about the best workout for weight loss.
Most people assume that cardiovascular exercises are always the best way to lose weight. While this is true, it may take quite a bit of work and quite a bit of time before you'll start seeing results. While cardio activity should always be included in any exercise program, the same needs to be said about lifting weights. Use weight resistance exercises to build muscles will cause your body to burn calories not only while you're working out but long after as well. Bigger muscles require additional calories. No, you don't need to be ripped like the guys on the covers of the body building magazines (gross, right?). Even lean muscle, not bulk, will burn calories like crazy.
It is also not necessary to join a gym or buy a lot of expensive equipment. If you enjoy the gym for social or other aspects, than by all means go for it. Same with the equipment. If you want to spend your money on, have at it. But there are many ideal workouts for weight loss that require no weights at all. These are generally called body-weight exercises. I love them because I can do them from anywhere, even while traveling. No excuses.
No matter what your approach or venue, there is one method of exercising that will burn calories and build muscle faster than any other. It's called interval training and it's becoming more and more popular for good reason.
Whether you're lifting weights or jogging, the concept is the same. You do your exercise for a short period of high intensity, meaning extremely high, for a predetermined amount of time. Then, you will continue doing that activity at a much lower intensity level and for a longer period of time. You'll repeat this cycle 5 or 6 times until you complete your routine for the day. Believe me, and you'll see for yourself, interval training routines are the best workouts for weight loss.

ReplyDeleteI would also love to add that knowing the right form of exercises that burns fat will do the person trying to lose weight a whole lot of good.
Some forms of exercising will make you add more weights while others will reduce your body fat. Know which one you are after and you will start seeing your desired results in no time.
