Metabolism Boosting Foods

By Dora Hector

There are certain foods that you can incorporate into your diet that will help to boost your metabolism. These foods can help you to lose weight more quickly or to maintain the weight you are currently at. There are plenty of fad diets out there, but real weight loss only occurs when you eat right and exercise. Adding the foods mentioned in this article to your diet will give your diet plan the boost it needs.

Spinach and Broccoli - Metabolism is simply the process through which the body converts fat into energy. The by-product of this process is normally heat and moisture among others. Spinach is known to increase metabolism. It is a great source of magnesium, iron, potassium, vitamin C and antioxidants. These nutrients can also contribute to a person's overall well being. Broccoli is also a good source of vitamin C, which helps the body to absorb calcium more efficiently. Nutritionists, and many other health experts, consider calcium a metabolic trigger. Therefore, the more you have in your body, the faster your metabolism will be.

Coffee and Green Tea - A common ingredient in many modern diet pills is green tea. This is because green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG. This speeds up brain function and the nervous system which in turn boosts metabolism. You can increase the results even more by adding a sprinkle of cinnamon to your tea. Cinnamon lowers cholesterol, maintains sugar levels, and also helps to boost the immune system. Coffee works as a stimulant that forces the body to work harder to keep stimulated and active throughout the day and therefore boosting your metabolism.

Curry and Jalapenos - Jalapenos contain a compound known as capcaisin which increases heart rate and metabolism for several hours after it is ingested. Other spices such as curry and cayenne pepper have similar properties and can boost the flavor of meals as well as your metabolism.

Meals taken during the diet program should be well balanced. All proteins should be obtained from legumes such as beans, or white meats like tuna. Deep fried foods, processed foods and alcoholic drinks should be avoided completely or reduced. Stay away from products containing aspartame among other artificial ingredients. Drink lots of clean water, increase your vegetable and fruit intake and you will be happy with the changes in just a few weeks.
