Development Of The Zara Phillips Clothing Range

By Marissa Velazquez

Zara Phillips, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II and daughter of Princess Ann, is a well respected equestrian in Britain. She has had an illustrious riding career to date, reigning as Eventing World Champion from 2006 to 2010. She won a silver medal at the Olympics hosted in London in 2012 which was presented to her by her mother. Her dedication and success in the equestrian field made her a natural fit with the Musto brand and a Zara Phillips clothing range was developed.

The development of a range of equestrian garments by Musto was just a matter of time. Like sailors, riders too are exposed to the elements and need to remain as warm and dry as possible. Phillips was a great ambassador for the brand and her collaboration in production of this range was a logical one. She is known on the world stage for her equestrian successes, including winning the Eventing World Championship in 2006 and a silver medal at the Olympics in 2012.

In 2009 Musto made the announcement that she was to be involved in the development of a range of equestrian garments. The products would all bear the logo ZP176. This was the number she wore when first competing as part of the British team.

With all her practical experience in the field, she had a great contribution to make at every stage of production. In the design stage, freedom of movement was considered to be vital and innovations were made to ensure this. She tweaked a few things such as putting in a longer cut for the jackets so the back would not be exposed when riding in the elements. She also wanted garments to be as stylish as possible, regarding the cut as important. All items were thoroughly tested to ensure that they functioned flawlessly, despite the circumstances.

The range developed consists of items such as a training jacket, a soft shell jacket, a gilet, a hooded top and a fleece lined jacket. It was launched in 2010 and the photo shoot showed this lovely young equestrian wearing the garments and looking extremely stylish. The attractive designs and quality fabrics used for these garments have made them a favorite in equestrian circles.

Waterproof jackets provide reassuring protection on early morning rides, whether it is raining or not. The rain is kept out by a water repellent finish and taped seams. The fabrics used are breathable too, enabling any body moisture to be wicked out.

There are a number of suppliers selling these products and browsing online websites offers an opportunity to compare products and prices. A reputable company should be chosen and reading online reviews written by satisfied customers is one method of determining reliability. Choosing the correct size is important and sizing guides are provided. There are also a range of colors from navy and black to orange and red to select from.

In recent years, the features on these garments have increased their practicality without taking away from their style. For example, fleece lined pockets may be included, well positioned for keeping hands warm. A hood may be removed and adjusted. Cuffs have adjustable studs. Vents at the rear of the garment make it fit well over the saddle. Zippers with a pommel flap in front help with fit and comfort too.

The Zara Phillips clothing range offers quality, style and the ultimate in comfort. It combines the years of experience of the Musto brand with the years of practical experience Phillips has in the equestrian field. The garments are popular for the fact that style does not have to be sacrificed for comfort and their quality means that they can be worn for many years.
