Gymnastics have their roots in Greece, moreover the name came from Greek terms, which if translated into English stands for excising naked. As a matter of fact early participants exercised while naked. Aerobics means performing systematized maneuvers using apparatuses or not. Gymnastics in Delaware is done to boost strength, coordination, physical conditioning, agility or for sport.

Bodily fitness in early Greece was achieved through cycles of maneuvers such as weight lifting, running, jumping, wrestling, throwing, and swimming. Bodily aptness was desired for a number of motives such as training of the military for wars. It was vital that all military men should be capable of defending themselves in case of a war. Over time individuals began training gymnastic for entertainment.

Before gymnastics were performed on international level they were practiced by various circus groups and individuals.

A branch of aerobics called floor exercise was made and coached for health purposes of the trainees. Floor exercising involves practicing with no hand gears such as dumbbells, wands, or clubs. This category of gymnastic was primarily not created for competition purposes but has gradually changed into what most people call floor gymnastic. Floor exercise nowadays is an Olympic event since its invention in 1932.

Pommel horse, horizontal bar, parallel rings, vaulting, and rings were amongst the first games to be contested at international stage in 18s. Men aerobics were first incorporated on the Olympic agenda in the 18s. Women calisthenics were introduced much later in the 19s. Men and women participated in similar events with the exception of balance beam, which was solely women event.

Calisthenics competition is held at different levels ranging from national, school, college, university, club to international stage. Current aerobics comprises of 6 different categories for male competitors and 4 categories for female contestants. Men categories emphasize on flexibility and strength of the upper part of the body of the athlete together with aerobics. Women categories comprise of uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and vaulting horse.

Global categories consist of varied ages. Contestants are classed as seniors or juniors depending on their age. All athletes whose age falls below 16 are grouped as juniors. Anyone above the age of sixteen falls under senior group. Most athletes start their training while young and achieve the highest level of physical fitness in their early 20s or late teenage-hood. Late teenage-hood is the period between fifteen and nineteen years.
